IMPORTANT NOTES<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

-Forest are minable. Repeat: Forests are minable.
-The initial goal of this scenario is to survive the Habsburg onslaught. Backstabbing can come afterwards.:)

VALOIS (Very Hard)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

"In 1483, Charles VIII inherited a strong France and a weak claim to the throne of Naples. The better claim was held by Ferdinand, but Charles hoped to buy him off by ceding the frontier province of Aragon that Louis XI had purchased from Ferdinand's father.

Charles also thought he could satisfy Maximillian's claim to the full Burgundian inheritance by acquescing in Maximilian's reoccupation of Artois, Picardy, and the County of Burgundy.

These entirely practical gains of Louis XI were thrown away so that Charles could march to Naples and back again (1494-95), Ferdinand making sure that the French garrison was expelled as soon as Charles had left.

In 1498, Charles hit his big stupid head on a lintel at Fontainbleau and died, to be succeeded by Louis XII, who had a small head and a claim to Milan as well as Naples."

-veteran status (Kiev)
Allies:
-Valois

OTTOMANS (Normal)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

"Firmly established on the Lower Danube at the beginning of the fifteenth century, the Ottomans were no further forward at the beginning of the sixteenth.

Initially, this lack of progress was due to the need to mop up Christian enclaves in the south; Mahomet II (1451-81) not only had to conquer Constantinople but various other Byzantine and Crusader remnants in the Balkans. Latterly, it was the ineffectual personality of Mahomet's son Bayezid II (1481-1512) that was to blame. Bayezid did a little more mopping up -- in particular, he took all but two of the Venetian fortresses in mainland Greece -- but for most of his reign he did nothing at all.

In the east, both the Mamlukes and Persians were hostile and, in case trouble might break out elsewhere, Bayezid refused to commit himself in any direction."

HABSBURGS (Not for Play)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

"Ferdinand and Isabella's sole surviving child was a daughter, Joanna. She had married Philip, Maximilian's son by his Burgundian wife. Philip died while still a young man: Joanna used the the occasion for behaviour of spectacular lunacy and had to be declared incompetenent; their combined possessions passed to their eldest child, Charles.

This fabulous inheritance -- the Netherlands, the Hapsburg lands in Germany, the Spanish kingdoms with their dependencies in the Mediterranean and the New World -- made Charles seem like a reincarnation of Charlemagne and the arbiter of Western Christendom."
